The Commission is the supreme body of the United Nations in the area of gender equality. It meets annually in March in New York and its mandate is to evaluate the fulfillment of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the Beijing Platform for Action and other international documents in the field of gender equality. This year's session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women is an international community receiving substantial attention, sicne its topic is the evaluation of the Beijing Platform for Action on the 20th anniversary of its adoption. The Beijing Platform for Action presents a complex and as of yet unmatched international standard in the promotion of women's rights and gender equality.
