Czech women’s rights activists are definitely not indifferent to the attacks in Cologne

18. 1. 2016

The Czech Women’s Lobby objects to the purposeful misinterpretation and the false title of Karolína Brožová’s article printed in the journal Právo on Friday January 15th, 2016.

The Czech Women’s Lobby and its member organizations unequivocally condemn all violence perpetrated against women. We consider it unacceptable and we have, in this sense, condemned the attacks that recently took place in Cologne and other cities. This was distinctly expressed by both the vice-president of the Czech Women’s Lobby Eva Kavková, who is quoted in the article, as well as the president of the organization Jana Chržová. Her answer however, as it did not fall in line with the manipulative intent of the article, was not included in the text. We are most certainly not ‘indifferent” to the events in Cologne, as falsely stated by journalist Karolína Brožová in her article. On the contrary, we demand a thorough investigation and a punishment for the perpetrators of these attacks. At the same time, we nevertheless reject the principle of collective guilt.
