Project name:
Raising awareness of the Council of Europe Istanbul Convention by piloting a joint methodology developed by the Council of Europe, WAVE and UN Women
Project annotation:
The aim of the project was to promote a systemic and long-term solution to violence against women through the ratification and implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and Combating Violence against women and domestic violence, the Istanbul Convention. The activities of our initiative have focused on wider recognition of the problem (especially at the political level), which will lead to better support for victims of violence, provision of services in more regions, specialized police teams and specialized shelters for victims seeking help. The main impact of this project is a better social understanding of the role of the International Convention as a tool to improve the current situation and a declaration of political support for the issue of violence against women.
Main objectives of the project:
Continue to raise public awareness – the main results are more balanced media coverage, more events and debates on the topic of violence against women.
Ensure political support – the expected outcome is that political parties acknowledge the issue of violence against women and declare their political support to address it.
Build on the collaboration with our member organisations (service providers for victims of violence) and the Genderman initiative
Organise an inter-agency online conference “Together against violence against women” – to be implemented on 25 November 2021
Collaborate with the Voice Against Violence coalition and advocates for legislative change regarding the redefinition of rape
