Name of Project:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Civil society awareness raising campaigns on the Council of Europe Istanbul Convention by piloting the joint methodology developed by the Council of Europe, WAVE Network and UN Women<\/p>\n

Description of the Project:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The overall objective of our project is to support systemic and long-term solutions of the problem violence against women (VAW) through ratification and implementation of Istanbul Convention.The impact of our initiative aims to the wider acknowledgement of the problem (mainly on the political level) that will lead to better support of victims of violence, provision of services in more regions, more specialized police teams as well as specialized asylum centers for victims seeking safety. The main impact of this project is expected in better understanding of the role of this international convention as a tool to improve the current situation – a declaration of political support.<\/p>\n

To dispute the opposition\u2019s main argument against the IC ratification – the claim that no international convention is needed because our existing legislation is perfectly sufficient – we will present specific legislative and systemic problems and loopholes (such as the inadequate definition of rape, secondary victimization, the lack of specifically trained police officers etc.) to give evidence for the need of a comprehensive change.<\/p>\n

Specific objectives and outcomes:<\/p>\n

To continue raising public awareness \u2013 main outcomes are more balanced media outcomes, more events and debates about VAW mentioning our initiative
\nTo ensure political support \u2013 an expected outcome is that political parties will acknowledge the problem of VAW and declare their political support
\nTo build on cooperation with our member organizations (providers of services to the victims of violence) and Genderman initiative (man supporting the issue) \u2013 group discussions and cooperation within the campaign, and also a big online conference will be organized where all the relevant stakeholders will be invited for discussion. To cooperate with the coalition Voice against Violence and our supporters on the redefinition of rape \u2013 raising awareness within the society, linking political parties to the subject to find the political support in the next election period, drafting new legislation..<\/p>\n
