Voices of Change: Women & Climate Leadership, Conference , 3 November 2025, The Hague, the Netherlands
Climate policies appear to be neutral as they affects everyone. However there is a severe under representation of women in decision making when it comes to climate policies.
This implies that decisions are taken for women & girls but no with them. E.g. decisions on the energy transition, with a leading role for the ICT sector, wind mills, solar panels, transport & mobility. The ICT (including AI) is a fast growing sector in which hardly women work. This sector seems to be unaware of its implicit sexism and female unfriendly behaviour in the workplace which results in women leaving this sector. This together with the fact that women still earn less than men for equal work (gender pay gap) results in a growing inequality.
Furthermore, some sectors of the climate policies are male dominated, These sectors enjoy higher status and likewise financial rewards, While overall women work in sectors that have a lower status in society with equal lower financial rewards than those of male dominated sectors.
With Dutch case based evidence, key note speakers, workshops and a small info market on good practices.
The following questions will be leading:
- What causes women to be severely under represented in decision making processes regarding climatepolicies ?
- What are its consequences ?
- What are the risks for society and democray if women are not actively involved in decision making when it comes to climate policies.
