The Roses Revolution 2018

25. 11. 2018

In Sunday November 25th, 2018, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, a representative of the Obstetric Working Group of the Czech Women´s lobby put a rose in front of the Ministry of Health, to express solidarity with women who have experienced violence during childbirth. With this action, the Czech Women´s Lobby joined The Roses Revolution global movement.

Ivana Antalová, representative of the Obstetrcis working group of the Czech Women´s lobby, said: "In many of our maternity hospitals, women encounter care that is provided without informend consent or is inconsistent with the latest science knowledge. This particularly includes a lack of privacy and confidentiality, restriction of movement, routine episiotomies and separation of children from their mothers. By placing roses in front of the Ministry of Health, we have expressed our solidarity with the women who have experienced this approach and we call for the improvement of birth care. We wish for human dignity to be respected."

The rose was then brought to the Ďáblice cemetery (in the Střížkov district) to the graves of child victims of communism, whose mothers gave birth in the Pankrác Prison in 1950s without any care.
