Petition for tackling the unavailability of public kindergardens for pre-school children

24. 6. 2010

Organizations associated under Czech Women's Lobby prepared PETITION FOR SOLVING THE PUBLIC UNAVAILABILITY of day - care facilities for preschool children. The reason was the continued lack of interest of local government bodies to solve the problem of non-availability of day care facilities for preschool children. Such an approach completely undermines any real opportunity to choose the length of parental leave. The aim of the petition was to draw attention to the seriousness of the problem and send a clear signal to representatives in local government bodies that is time to act in this issue.

The biggest problems of parents were dramatic shortage of kinder gardens, the high cost of tuition fees in non-state child care facilities and the resulting limited opportunity in the labor market. Czech Republic officially declared support for working mothers and facilitating their return after a career break to care for a child - with this plan was introduced three-speed drawdown of parental allowance. Despite this declared goal of facilitating the parents, but especially women faster return to the labor market from parental leave, the state in fact does not fulfill this objective, since it is not an environment where such a return was practically feasible. The current design process, taking children to kindergarten two years since the situation is not addressed. Existing nursery facilities are not accepted, nor all children older than 3 years.

This petition was trying to speed up the legislative process and the issue to become a target of local goverments in Czech republic.

The petition you can find in czech version on our website.
